WISPALS: Wisconsin Project for Automated Libraries
History: Organized in 1989 by the librarians at Gateway Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College, and Waukesha County Technical College.
Purpose: The WISPALS Library Consortium provides access to a shared library automation system, shared library resources, provides access to databases and other information resources at reduced costs, exchanges knowledge and skills in library automation, provides liaison between member libraries and other library agencies or groups. The consortium currently maintains over 60 electronic database subscriptions, migrated to the Voyager ILS in 2000, and implemented the Docutek Electronic Reserve System in 2003.
Governance: A Board of Directors, consisting of the presidents of each member college, heads the WISPALS Library Consortium. It is advised by an Executive Committee, consisting of the library directors from each member college. Harriet Broom, Library Manager at Mid-State Technical College, is the current Chair of the WISPALS Executive Committee. Gateway Technical College serves as the Consortium's fiscal agent and Waukesha County Technical College houses the Consortium servers.
